SUMMARY:Prayers & Arti\, Barn
DESCRIPTION:Arti is a ceremony of worship involving devotional songs of praise to the Lord. In the Meher Baba community\, Arti was often performed before Meher Baba during His lifetime\, and is still performed twice a day at His tomb in India. \nThere are three prayers written by Meher Baba that are said at the beginning of Arti: the Master’s Prayer\, the Prayer of Repentance\, and the Beloved God Prayer. After the prayers are said\, two of five special songs are sung that were written for this purpose and were approved by Baba for use as Artis. Afterward\, there is a time for anyone who wants to express their love in their own way\, often through music\, poetry\, or storytelling. \nMeher Baba made it clear\, again and again\, that He had come to “abolish … rites and rituals\,” and that ceremonies done simply by rote had no meaning on the spiritual path. Paradoxically\, however\, He participated in Arti. Even toward the end of Baba’s life\, when He was suffering severely from back and hip pain from His 1956 car accident\, He still insisted on standing for the prayers. Baba said\, “My participation in these prayers has great significance\, and by it\, the prayers are being invested with added power\, which people will feel when reciting them and be benefited.” \nMany people feel that by coming together as a group for these special prayers and songs\, they can feel Baba’s presence palpably\, and His acceptance of their love and offering.

The OK was chosen because Meher Baba Himself walked through this building countless times during all three visits to the Center \nThe Center endeavors to offer opportunities for personal and familial connections between guests in the hopes of encouraging natural links between them\, as well as additional avenues to learn more about Meher Baba. \nThe inspiration for this special time of Q & A was kindled by the enduring examples of Elizabeth Patterson\, Kitty Davy and Jane Haynes. With great personal warmth and accessibility\, these remarkable disciples of Meher Baba invariably welcomed newcomers and old timers in the spirit of joyful homecoming to “Meher Baba’s Home in the West where all who come may experience His love.”

SUMMARY:Artists in Residence: Mark Trichka & Lisa Brande
DESCRIPTION:Husband and wife Mark and Lisa\, from Vermont and Florida\, USA\, have been full time professional performers for over 40 years\, and lovers of Meher Baba for longer than that. Mark first journeyed to India in 1982\, playing his mandolin for Mehera and the Mandali\, where Mani dubbed him Mandolin Walla. His CD of the same name was released in 2008\, and included his heartfelt vocal compositions composed to his Beloved as well as mandolin instrumentals. Mark is also an accomplished guitarist and singer. His wife Lisa journeyed to India in 1989 soon after marrying Mark and has performed by his side ever since\, on fiddle\, guitar\, mandolin and vocals. They have released several Baba CDs and have played all over the world together including India\, Avatars Abode birthday celebration in Australia\, and at many Sahavas programs over the years. Mark and Lisa’s mandolin and fiddle parts can also be heard on many Baba musicians’ recordings including Jamie Newell\, Buz Connor\, Cindy Lowe\, Bobbi Bernstein\, Jim Meyer\, Pam Rubenstein\, Daniel Stone\, Beverly Smith\, and others. In addition to their 2016 release\, “Anything is Possible”\, and their 2020 release “True Love”\, most all of their Baba and secular recordings can be heard on disc\, and on Apple music\, as well as most all streaming platforms by searching under their individual names.

This book serves as a practical guide for the determined seeker navigating the spiritual path. \nThe reading of Discourses at the Center is one of the four purposes stated in the Meher Center Charter written by Meher Baba Himself. The purpose of these weekly gatherings is to examine and attempt to absorb the wisdom embedded in the words of the Avatar of the Age. Participants take turns reading aloud from the book and afterwards there is a brief discussion on the selected chapter. The Discourses provide the reader with Meher Baba’s blueprint on how to live His life of love and truth. \nAll are welcome to join in the reading of this spiritual classic.
