When Mimi Hay’s children became old enough to visit the mandali in India, she and her husband decided to take them. It was a decision that was not popular with her large Catholic family and at a reunion before the trip, many of her relatives made that very clear. Hoping to assuage them, Mimi suddenly said “‘We’re going to go see Mother Teresa.’ And as soon as I said it, I thought, why did I say that?” They had no plans to do that.
