New light on, “… not to teach, but to Awaken” in Meher Baba’s mystical discourses on ‘Self-Realization’” (1938-41) – A Talk by Scott Makeig, Meeting Place

During a four-months stay in Ahmednagar (1970-71), Scott received from Baba’s secretary Adi K. Irani a set of the 48 Meher Baba Journal issues created and published at Baba’s request by His close disciples during 1938-42. Within them, he discovered 19 mystical articles contributed by Norina Matchabelli while she was living with Baba and His mandali (1938-41), including discourses Baba gave directly through the mind of Norina to offer a fuller intuitive understanding of what it was Baba was working in this advent to awaken – the process He called ‘Self-realization.’

These articles are unique in that Baba specifically instructed the Journal editors to publish them just as contributed by Norina, assuring them that they would come to be appreciated ‘in future.’ When Norina returned to America (mid-1941), Baba told Norina He would speak through her only as ‘God Personal,’ with no use of ‘the mystical language’ as the voice of ‘God Impersonal.’ Thus, the mystical articles written by Norina while living with Baba in India have remained nearly unknown to or ignored by Baba’s lovers.

Seven years ago, Scott returned to these revelatory articles and began to edit them for publication. On Sept. 19, he will describe their unparalleled history and place in Baba’s published work, their unique use of ‘the mystical language,’ and their main theme – the awakening process He called ‘Self-realization. ’ He will illustrate how the insights they o[er complement Baba’s other descriptions of the great awakening that as Avatar of this age Baba worked to prepare and manifest.
