“Baba showed me that real sadhana was to live your life in the world and spiritualize it”

Daniel Peach, originally from Columbia, South Carolina, shares many sweet and humorous stories of his spiritual life, starting at a young age. He was dedicated to Kriya Yoga for years, meditating several hours a day, and he quickly mastered Hindi, which gave him a powerful and life-long connection to India. He learned about Meher Baba from his boss and friend, Meherwan Irani, the owner of Chai Pani, and though he loved Baba very much, he was not ready to accept that He was God in human form. But after reading God Speaks, Daniel stated aloud, “Meher Baba is God! Who else could have written this book but God!” Daniel is now married, living in Atlanta and travels back to Meherabad often.

“I thought Baba was a spiritual genius, and He is!”

Musician and raconteur Jamie Newell has a Baba story rich with coincidences and early skepticism. It starts with a harrowing childhood injury that led to his becoming a musician. His first sight of Baba was years later on a “Don’t Worry Be Happy” poster in the bathroom of a fellow musician. Jamie loved the saying, which he thought sounded like it came from a yogi, but he wondered why it was paired “with this smiling Italian pizza maker.” Thus began a search for the poster, that eventually led him to the Discourses, and his first recognition of Baba. Upon seeing Baba’s picture in the third volume, Jamie says “It was like an electrical shock. I said, ‘Wait a minute. This is the pizza guy!’” And that is just the beginning of Jamie’s Baba story.

“Intuition is the way I connect with Baba”

In this charming talk, Hugh Flick shares how he came to “his spiritual awakening.” Even though he was at Harvard around the same time as Rick Chapman, Allan Cohen and other early Baba lovers, he didn’t cross paths with them. Hugh heard about Baba from his brother Bart. And it was some years later when he started going to Darwin Shaw’s meetings regularly that he began what he calls “his awakened life” with Baba. “Darwin’s meetings were incredibly powerful spiritual experiences,” he says. There Hugh learned the importance of “dressing your soul with Baba” and keeping him as “my constant companion.”
